Things to do near Dikwella Bay
Whether you want to relax or explore, there is plenty to do around The Boat House. The beautiful Dikwella beach is on your doorstep, while Hiriketiya Bay is just a short walk away, with excellent surfing and a great choice of cafés, bars, restaurants and independent boutique shops.
For adventure, try surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving or fishing. Whale and dolphin watching, turtle experiences and safaris can also be arranged, giving you the chance to discover the incredible wildlife and landscapes of southern Sri Lanka.

Swimming with Turtles – Batigama Beach
Just 5 minutes from The Boat House, Battigama Beach is a beautiful spot for swimming and snorkelling, with the chance to see sea turtles in the clear coastal waters. At certain times of the year, guests may also have the opportunity to see baby turtles hatching and being released into the sea — a magical experience for both children and adults
Whale & Dolphin watching: Mirissa (1 hour)
Enjoy the peace, beauty, and tranquility of the Indian ocean while spotting Blue Whale, Humpback Whale, Killer Whale, Whale Shark, Dolphin or Sea Turtles. The season runs from November to April, with peak season being December to March.
Learn to surf: Hiriketiya (5 mins)
Just a 10-minute walk from The Boat House, Hiriketiya is one of Sri Lanka’s most popular surf spots. Its sheltered horseshoe-shaped bay offers waves for beginners and more experienced surfers, with surf schools and board hire available locally.
A day at the National Parks (2 / 2.5 hours)
Yala National Park is home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species.
Udawalawe National Park is an important habitat for Sri Lankan elephants. Many elephants are attracted to the park because of the Udawalawe reservoir, with a herd of about 250 believed to be permanently resident.
Wewurukannala Vihara (30 mins)
A fifty metre high seated Buddha figure, the largest in Sri Lanka, is a highlight of this temple. Before reaching the Buddha you pass through a hall of horrors - life sized models of demons and sinners.
Galle Fort
Take a trip to historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s most atmospheric destinations. Wander through the charming cobbled streets, explore the old ramparts, browse independent boutiques and galleries, and stop for lunch or a coffee at one of the many cafés and restaurants.
Stay for sunset and watch the sun disappear over the Indian Ocean from the famous fort walls.
