The Vision
Always intended to be a family retreat, it was crucial to Andrew and Elaine that The Boat House was designed without compromise and built to give all the enjoyment, privacy and creature comforts of home. Their vision was to craft a villa to provide guests with an unrivalled holiday experience in a magically exotic location imbued with a feeling of 'home'.
The Browns availed the services of friend and interior designer, Fiona Miles, to expertly and luxuriously furnish The Boat House with a chic blend of the old and the new. Ignoring, as Andrew would admit, some of their more insane ideas, yet always working to ensure the core of what they wanted was achieved, Fiona has created a home in which each living area boasts style, space and an unparalleled attention to detail. Additionally, the lights and furniture within The Boat House were custom designed and hand crafted. The fantastic location and superb styling have ensured The Boat House has retained a spot in the UK Sunday Times top ten holiday picks.
The Boat
The villa name was chosen because of a beautiful but completely unseaworthy and ridiculously overpriced classic wooden fisherman's boat that Andrew and Elaine purchased early on in their Sri Lankan adventure. They laugh that an alternative name considered was "Saw Coming They Us" but it didn't quite have the same ring to it. In any event, the boat now sits in magnificent splendour in the grounds of The Boat House where, in their own words, guests can look upon it and wonder at their gullibility.
As to the reasons for the adventure in the first place, the Browns' children are mixed ages and they wanted to find a country and a location that catered for all of their needs. Lazing away the day by the pool with friends was equally as important as taking advantage of the fantastic surf. Exotic locations and stunning scenery made for fantastic selfie opportunities for their elder daughters, whilst an endless supply of beach crabs entertained their youngest.
Above all, the family wanted a place that was beautiful, relaxing and unique, and where they could come as a family to build memories together. Andrew and Elaine think they found it, and would love to give you the chance to do the same.
